Andre Romelle Young was born in Compton, California on February 14, 1965. 

His middle name Romelle was derived from 'The Romelle', His father's amateur R&B group. 

His family often moved and lived in different apartments and houses in Compton, Carson, Long Beach and the Watts and South Central neighborhoods of Los Angeles. 

Dre was having his high school education in Centennial high school but due to poor grades got transferred to Fremont High School in Los Angeles.
