On November 4, 1969 Sean John Combs was born in Harlem, New York City but raised in Mount Vernon, New York. 

He lost his Dad at the age of 2 after his father Melvin who worked in the US Air Force was shot to death in his car. 

Combs went to the Roman Catholic All Boys high school Mount Saint Michael Academy where he also played football and won a division title with his team in 1986. 

He left Howard University after his sophomore year though being a business major.

Combs signed more acts to the label including Carl Thomas, Faith Evans, 112, Total and Father MC.
