Wizkid Biography 

He was born on 16 July, 1990 as Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun. He is known popularly by his stage name, Wizkid. He started recording at the age of 11 and also managed to put up a collaborative album with his then church friends as they were known as the Glorious Five. 

Wizkid attended Ijebu Ode Gram mar School. In mid 2009, he dropped out of Lagos State University (LASU) to focus on his craft. He later attended Lead City University but also dropped out after completing two sessions. 


Banky W in 2009 signed Wizkid to his record label, Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). He became popular in 2010 after his song "Holla at your Boy" was released from his upcoming  debut studio album "Superstar".

Wizkid was born in Surulere, a residential and commercial area of Lagos. He grew up in an interfaith household with twelve female siblings. 

His father is Muslim (practices Islam) while his mother is a Pentecostal Christian. In an interview with Tim Westwood in 2012, wizkid said his father has three wives. Wizkid listened to the likes of King Sunny Ade, Fela Kuti and Bob Marley while growing up. 

He beared the stage name Lil Prinz since he started recording at age 11 but got it changed in 2006. Wizkid described his life in a nutshell while on an interview with Adesope of Factory 78 TV. He said he formed a group called the Glorious Five with a couple of his church friends. 

The group managed to release an album before they disbanded. Wizkid later met a popular record producer, OJB Jezreel, who prevented him from recording for a year. 



While visiting OJB's PointBeat studios always, he watched legendary 2face Idibia record songs for his Grass to Grace Album. Wizkid was also present during the recording sessions for Sound Sultan's debut album, Jagbajantis. 


Wizkid pointed out Naeto C as one of the people who mentored and coached him when he was 15 years old. 

According to Wizkid, his parents didn't like the idea of doing music. He said he had to work hard and spread lots of time in the studio in order to gain his father's trust. 

Banky W's "Omoge You Too Much" was co-written by Wizkid. The song was from the album, "The W Experience". He also worked with the likes of M.I, Naeto C, OJB Jezreel, Ikechukwu while he was developing his craft. 

In 2009, work on his debut studio album has already commenced. On January 2010,he released "Holla at your Boy" which was the album's lead single. This song earned Wizkid the Next Rated Award at the Headies 2011 and was also nominated for Best Pop Single at the Headies Awards.

The music video for "Holla at your Boy" was nominated for Most Gifted Newcomer Video at the 2011 Channel O Music Video Awards. The video also got nominated for Best Afro Pop Video at the 2011 Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA).

The second single for the album was released on 2 April 2010. It was titled "Tease Me/ Bad Guys" and was initially released as a freestyle. "Don't Dull" was the third single for the album. It was released on 6 December, 2010.

The "Superstar" album was recorded in English and Yoruba. Empire Mates Entertainment on my 12 June 2011 released the album. It incorporated elements of R&B, Reggae and Dance hall.

Wizzy worked with many music producers like E-kelly, Jay Sleek, Shizzi, DJ Klem, MasterKraft, Q-Beats and Samklef. He also collaborated with other artists such as Banky W, Skales, D'Prince and Wande Coal.


An album launch party was hosted by Wizkid on 12 June 2011 at the Expo Hall of the Eko Hotel and Suites. The likes of Skales, 2face Idibia , Samklef, Wande Coal, Lynxx, Seyi Shay, Jesse Jagz, Ice Prince, D'Prince, Olamide , Eldee.

His debut album "Superstar" won the Best Album Of The Year at 2012 Nigerian Entertainment Awards and also got nominated for The Album Of The Year at the Headies 2012.

"Ayo" was Wizkid's second studio album. He started working on it in 2012. Guest appearances featured in the album were Tyga, Femi Kuti, Banky W, Seyi Shay, Phyno , Akon and Wale. Record producers such as Sarz, Shizzi, Uhuru, Del B, Dokta, Maleek Berry, Legendury Beatz and Spellz.

On September 6, 2014, Wizkid revealed the album's cover art including the track listing. Before announcing plans for a second studio album, he had plans of releasing a mixtape in April 2013. Wizzy in an interview with OK! Nigeria, said that the mixtape would feature the likes of Wale and Tinie Tempah.

Wizkid released a song "Ojuelegba" depicted the struggles he endured during the early years of his recording career. The music video for "Ojuelegba" was released on 5 January, 2015. The official remix for the song features vocals from Drake and Skepta, and premiered on OVO sound radio in July 2015.

Wizkid revealed his plans to postpone his third studio album release and drop his EP (Extended Play). The announcement was made to the public on instagram after the conclusion of 2face Idibia's "Fortified" tribute concert.

On 14 July 2017, Sounds From The Other Side was released on all digital platforms.


Wizkid in 2016, achieved international recognition following his collaborations with Drake on the global hit "One Dance" which reached number one in 15 countries, including the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Australia.

On April 5, 2016, Wizkid became the first Nigerian artist to emerge on Billboards Twitter Last 24 Hours Chart. "One Dance" reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, a position it kept for 10 non-consecutive weeks.

Following the release of his second studio album and expiration of his 5-year recording contract, wizkid left E.M.E on 1 March 2017. Billboard Magazine reported that Wizkid signed a multi-album deal with RCA Records.

Davido is an American-born Nigerian singer. He was born on November 21,1992 in Atlanta, Georgia in the US. His real name is David Adedeji Adeleke. He became popular after his single "Dami Duro" in 2011 received great airplays.

Shatta Wale (formerly Bandana) is Ghanaian Producer and reggae-dancehall musician. His full name is Charles Nii Armah Jr. Shatta Wale is one of the most popular African musicians.

 He is best known for his song "Dance hall King" which led to him winning the Artiste of the year at the 2014 edition of the Ghana Music Awards. The Ghanaian star has featured in the following movies; Never Say Never, The Trial of Shatta Wale and Shattered Lives (along with Majid Michel and Bisa K'dei.

Shatta Wale was born in Accra, Ghana at the Police hospital on October 17, 1984. He is the son of Charles Nii Armah Mensah Sr who is a politician, businessman and also a legal practitioner. Wale had his primary education at Seven Great Princes Academy at Dansoman, a suburb in Accra.


While he was growing up, he lived in Laterbiokorshie, Dansoman with his family before relocating to Korle Gonno during his later years. According to sources referring to a live facebook video of Shatta Wale, he didn't enjoy motherly love and care at early stages of his life due to a pastor. After the separation of his parents, he remained under his father's care before ending up on the streets.

Afterwards, Yemi featured Selebobo on the single 'Tangerine' which took top spots across Africa.

"King Of Queens" was released on October 2, 2014 by Effyzzie Music Group. It is the debut studio album of Yemi Alade and collaborated with many producers and also featured some top Entertainment acts. She promoted the album by going to tours in different African countries. Yemi released her second album called "Mama Africa" in March 2016. Another great album was Black Magic which was released on December, 2017.

Yemi Alade was featured recently on Beyonce's The Gift Album along with other various African artistes.
